“Mr. Green, the baby is innocent,” finally Jacob uttered a few words.

Samuel wondered what else he could speak to Jacob.

He whispered, “Jacob, we’ve been good friends. Let me give you a kindly reminder -- divorce as soon as possible. Otherwise, there would be a fuss ahead. I can’t protect you. I’ve thought that you are a man who can be entrusted for life and even thought you are a good man with decent character. I thought Olivia would be quite happy after marrying you. But you’re truly different than I’ve thought. Probably everyone is selfish in some way. Some of us are selfish but it doesn’t mean they are bad or something, but some of us would turn others down by doing just one thing. I have to admit I’m so disappointed in you.”

After finishing his words, Samuel hung up the phone.

For so many years, Samuel seldom spoke so harshly to Jacob.

Jacob was taken aback for a moment as if he was hit by something. He stood there motionlessly and didn’t notice even when his cell phone dropped on the ground.

Mr. Green remarked that he was selfish. However, he had his reason to have done so. He was afraid that Olivia wouldn’t have anyone to rely on after getting aged.

If they had a child, even if he died earlier, Olivia would still have a baby, wouldn’t she?

The baby was raised by her. Since it was just born, it wouldn’t know anything. Hence, it would treat Olivia as its birth mother.

Jacob wondered why she couldn’t understand his effort.

Why was he remarked being selfish?

Jacob didn’t think he had done anything wrong. However, when he thought about Samuel’s words, he felt quite upset.

There were a few knocks on the door.

Before Jacob answered, Julissa opened the office door and came in with a cup of coffee.

“What happened? Why do you look so upset? I made you a cup of coffee. Try it.”

Julissa smiled brightly at him. However, Jacob recalled Samuel’s words.

This woman was quite gentle and graceful in his presence. In business, she was also a rarely good assistant. He even spent more time with her than with Olivia.

She gave him a wrong impression, but secretly, she had played so many dirty tricks to Olivia, hadn’t she?

Jacob gazed at Julissa directly.

Under his gaze, she was scared and smiling uneasily.

“What happened? Why are you looking at me like this?”

“You’re pregnant, but why you are still wearing high heels? Aren’t you afraid it would hurt the baby?”

“I’m too busy to buy shoes. I’ve been quite busy in the company recently.”

“I’ve asked the human resource department to hire another two assistants. You can transfer your tasks to them in the following days. Then you can just stay home and take care of yourself.”

Julissa was stunned while hearing Jacob’s words. In a hurry, she said, “There is so much work in the company. How can I complete the transfer in only a few days?”

“I’m still here. I can mentor the newcomers.”

“Mr. Brown, the baby is only more than fifty days old. I am not in a hurry to rest. I can still work.”

“I hope the baby could be born safe and sound.”

Jacob’s gaze suddenly became sharp.

Julissa bit her bottom lip, knowing that she would suffer a loss if she continued arguing with Jacob. She said in a grievance tone, “Did that Mrs. Green do something to stress you? Mr. Brown, you are the CEO of a listed company. Why are you afraid of a woman?”

“It’s none of your business. I’ve hired a nanny and bought you a house. In five days, finish transferring your job and move. I’ll ask the servants to take care of you. As long as you can give birth to a healthy baby, I’ll keep my promise.”

Upon hearing Jacob’s words, Julissa felt quite joyful.
