Chapter 495
Following Lucas was no accident.
This was exactly whiat Wendy had been aiming for.
She wanted to see for herself what Aurora had been up to all night
She didn’t answer any calls and messages—what could she possibly be doing?
And now, even after all this time, there was still no sign of her.
On the drive over, Lucas found himself reconsidering whether bringing Wendy along had been a mistake.
What if Aurora saw her? Would it upset her?
After a few moments of hesitation, he pulled over to the side of the road.
“You should get out.”
Wendy blinked, confused. “What? Lukey, we’re already halfway there, and you want to just dump me out?”
“Call a cab. Get back on your own. Get out now.”
His words stunned her. She had no idea what had suddenly changed.
How could someone shift so quickly, without warning?
“But we’re in the middle of nowhere,” she said, voice turning soft and wounded. “Where am I supposed to go?”
“I just want to check on Aurora. I’m not going there to cause drama. I won’t say anything out of line,” she added quickly, eyes wide with pleading innocence.
Lucas hesitated again.
As much as he hated to admit it, she wasn’t wrong.
They really were out in the middle of the road, and it would be hard for her to find a ride.
And after all, she was Kenneth’s little sister.
Kicking her out like this didn’t sit entirely right.
He ran through the possibilities in his mind, weighing the outcome.
Finally, he gave in. “Fine. You can come with me. But the second Aurora shows any discomfort, any at all, you leave. Immediately.”
“Of course. You can count on me, Lukey,” she said sweetly, clenching her fists even as she smiled.
She could swallow the discomfort, hold back the bitterness.

The only reason he was still being remotely civil to her was because of her brother.
If not for Kenneth, she would’ve been dumped out of the car long 0.
