Chapter 194
A complex expression clouded Nicolas’s eyes, and he exhaled heavily. He couldn’t understand why Thea was so stubborn.
Is it because she doesn’t trust me? Or perhaps because she doesn’t love me and wants to avoid getting too deeply involved?” he wondered.
“What’s your plan then? How do you intend to wrap this up?” Nicolas asked.
Noticing the discontent in his tone, Thea’s body trembled slightly as she stared at her feet, struggling to explain, though she was enthused, “I realize I acted impulsively and alinest caused trouble for you, Mr. Hendrix. “But Joyce is my friend, and I couldn’t just ignore her.”
Nicolas’s expression darkened further.
From the driver’s seat, Darwin quickly interjected, “Mrs. Hendrix, Mr. Hendrix didn’t mean it that way. He was just worried about you, which is why he rushed back.”
Thea politely nodded. “I understand, but from now on, I’ll make sure to sort out solutions beforehand, I won’t hold you back again, Mr. Hendrix.”
She sensed that Nicolas was frustrated because he couldn’t stay in Silvercreek with Stephanie to clean up after her. She was not someone who lacked awareness. But for some reason, Nicolas seemed even more displeased.
“Mr. Hendrix, if there’s nothing else, I won’t disturb you any longer. With that, Thea opened the car door.
To avoid making him angrier, I better leave now,‘ she wondered.
Darwin was left speechless, unsure of what to say as an outsider
However, before Thea could step out, Nicolas grasped her wrist firmly, Losing her balance, she stumbled into his solid chest.
The familiar scent enveloped her, leaving Thea somewhat flustered. She looked up, her eyes meeting his cold yet stunningly handsome face, speaking cautiously, Tm sorry, Mr. Hendrix, about your injury…”
Little did Thea know that in his eyes, she appeared endearing.
“It’s nothing” Nicolas’s expression was a mix of emotions, and he sighed, seemingly resigned. “Thea, what am I going to do with you?”
His clear voice inexplicably struck a chord in her heart. In an instant, Thea felt her ears flush, and she quickly averted her gaze, not wanting him to see through her thoughts.
Thea did like him. But Nicolas already had Stephanie in his heart. This contract marriage would eventually come to an end. Thea didn’t want to get caught up in a love triangle. Otherwise, she’d be the one left feeling humiliated
Quickly shifting the topic, Thea asked, “Mr. Hendrix, do you have anything else to discuss?”
Nicolas’s deep–set eyes stirred momentarily, and he stared at her for a moment before speaking in his calm, magnetic voice. “lan is coming over from Bangolware. Dad wants us to return to the Hendrix residence together.”
Thea nodded and closed the car door. She was still his wife in name, and in Silvercreek, Nicolas had gotten hurt while saving her. Whatever arrangements the Hendrix family had, she should cooperate.
But recalling their last visit to Bangolware, when Nicolas had taken her to dinner with lan, Thea remembered that she hadn’t even met the man himself.
Clearly, lan was not pleased with her presence. Thea couldn’t help but worry that her appearance might provoke Lan’s

displeasure.
The scene from Max’s wedding must have become quite the tople of gossip among the people of Key Biskane by now,

emed like Nicolas could always see through Thea’s thoughts is he suddenly spoke up. “Don’t be nervous. I told you, lan is easy to get along with. He just doesn’t know you well yet.”
Despite his reassurance, Thea couldn’t help but remain tense, lan was an old–school artist known for his aloofness and strong sense of reputation, and he was always blunt in his speech. Unfortunately, Thea’s reputation wasn’t very favorable.
Nicolas’s hand naturally covered hers, the warmth of his touch sending an unexpected shiver down her spine. “Tm here for
Thea stared at the stern man beside her, her heart skipping a beat. She believed no one could resist feeling drawn to Nicolas. But then she thought of Stephanie.
The butler Ford was already waiting to greet them. “Hi, Mr. Hendrix, Mrs. Hendrix. Stefan is in the backyard listening to an opera with Mr. Davis. Let me take you over.”
Thea instinctively looked at Nicolas. Though she knew what kind of man Nicolas was before marrying him, it still bothered her that such a man wouldn’t lack admirers.
dress.
Though Thea couldn’t see her face clearly, her posture suggested she was well–mannered. That must be Ms. Davis, the one Ford had mentioned.
