Jake appeared significantly more haggard, with dark circles under his eyes. He forced a smile and strode toward Thea, gazing at her with deep affection.

Jake clenched his jaw and quickly caught up to her. “Thea, what will it take for you to stop making a scene?”

Thea turned back, looking at him with a strange expression. “What scene? I’m just speaking the truth. Don’t act like I’ve let you down. Jake, you were the one who let go of our relationship first. There’s no rule in this world that says I have to wait for you.”

Jake was at a loss for words. His emotions shifted rapidly, and anger faded, leaving only helplessness. “Please, don’t do this. Can’t we just be good together like we used to?”

Thea suddenly had a thought. “Honestly, we can, but tell me a thing first. Are you here to make amends because you still have feelings for me, or is it just because of Madelyn?”

Meeting her cold gaze, Jake felt a twinge of guilt. His eyes flickered as he replied, “After all these years, we naturally have feelings for each other. Madelyn is a pitiful person. Now that you and I are together, you can fulfill your long–held wish, and my dad can let go of Madelyn. It’s a good thing for everyone.”
