In the hospital, the smell of disinfectant was particularly pungent.
Juliana sat in the waiting room, eyes tightly closed, trying to escape the discomfort.

The doctor set down the documents, sighed, and said, “Ms. Shaffer, your condition is not looking good.”
Juliana looked up, tears glistening in her eyes. “Is it… getting worse?”
The doctor nodded.
“Your tumor is located in a critical part of the brain, and emotional fluctuations are very detrimental to your health. Your recent emotional upheavals could cause the condition to worsen more quickly.”
Juliana lowered her head, tears streaming down. “I know… But…”
Seeing her distress, the doctor stood up, walked over to Juliana, and gently patted

Juliana stopped in her tracks, feeling complex.
She knew she shouldn’t eavesdrop, but she couldn’t help but move a little closer.
Stanley was sitting on a bench in the corridor, with Amelia beside him.
Amelia leaned on his shoulder, crying softly.
“But… But what should I do? I can’t drag you into this mess…”
Stanley held her hand tightly. “This isn’t just your problem. We’ll face it together. Don’t worry. I’ll handle it.”
Juliana felt a sharp pain in her heart, as if it was pierced.
She knew she couldn’t listen any longer and turned to leave.
Just then, Stanley’s words hit her like a hammer to the chest.
