“Huh? I...” Sylvia froze for a moment before realizing the doctor had mistaken her for someone else.

“Early pregnancy, huh? Some bleeding, take it easy, no jumping around, and watch your diet.”

“No, doctor, I…”

“Alright, next.” The doctor waved her off, signaling for the next patient.

The next woman was already pushing the door open.

Sylvia figured it wasn’t worth explaining anymore and quickly left the room.

As she turned around, she bumped into someone.

“Sorry,” she mumbled, looking down.

As she was about to walk away, someone grabbed her wrist tightly.

“You lied to me? You’re pregnant.”

The voice, usually calm and collected, was now brimming with anger.

Sylvia looked up, only to find Rupert standing before her.

What was he doing here?

Was he accompanying Bridget?

But Bridget was clearly here for an abortion.

Before Sylvia could sort through her thoughts, her wrist hurt even more.

She hissed, “Let go, it hurts. I’m not pregnant.”

Rupert’s eyes narrowed, his anger palpable, but he loosened his grip slightly and pushed open the doctor’s door.

“What’s her situation?”

The doctor pushed up his glasses, looking at Sylvia, “You’re her husband, right? Make sure she doesn’t overexert herself. There’s some bleeding, signs of a threatened miscarriage. She needs to rest and ensure proper nutrition.”

“He’s not! It’s not me! I’m not…” Mandy!

Sylvia was almost shouting.

Seeing her so agitated, the doctor quickly said, “I have other patients, please, you must leave.”

Rupert pulled Sylvia and left the office.

Sylvia was baffled, being dragged out of the building. She shook her hand free in annoyance.

“Yes… What do you mean? Are you doubting my competence?” Chris retorted.

“Could there have been a mix-up?”

“Of course not… well, not impossible. I wasn’t with her for the blood test. It's possible, but unlikely. You shouldn’t worry,” Chris emphasized.

Rupert listened silently, secretly hoping Sylvia was capable of such a feat.

If they had a child, they’d surely be as beautiful as her.

Chris’s voice interrupted his thoughts, “Why are you asking this?”

Rupert, not wanting to explain, cleared his throat, “How do you treat a threatened miscarriage?”

Chris paused, probing, “Bridget?”

“No.”

There was a loud noise on Chris’s end, probably a chair hitting the floor.

“Buddy, you barely got through the scandal with your niece, and now you’re involved with someone else? You should be thankful I'm a doctor, bound by confidentiality. If I were a gossip journalist, I’d have a field day with your secrets.”

“Who told you we got through it?” Rupert replied coolly.
