Though it was just for a month, Skylar’s temporary room in the Fosters‘ villa left her 

speechless – from its size and views to every thoughtfully placed detail. 

She wasn’t sure if she was a houseguest or a visiting dignitary. 

Patricia, also seeing the room for the first time, noticed even cosmetics had been arranged. 

She finally praised her usually taciturn son. 

“Who knew our quiet Aiden could be so thoughtful? Skylar, tesoro, is there anything else 

you need?” 

Skylar shook her head, surprise and gratitude shining in her eyes. 

Seeing her mother’s features reflected in Skylar’s sweet expression, Patricia’s heart melted. 

She reached out to pinch her cheek affectionately. 

Aiden, entering with luggage, caught his mother’s wrist and guided it back to her side. 

“Failed again,” Patricia pouted at her son. “Are you sure you’re feeling okay? You’re unusually… involved today.” 

Aiden gave his playful mother a look before turning to a bemused Skylar. 

“The evenings get cool here, even in summer. I noticed you packed mostly summer clothes, 

so there are some clean jackets in the closet if you need them.” 

Skylar was stunned. The guy who’d barely managed one message in ten days online had 

thought of everything. 

Remembering her earlier skepticism on the plane, she felt sheepish, offering sincere thanks. 

Neither noticed Patricia’s knowing smile as she slipped out to text her best friend back in 

Manhattan.

“Sarah, I think our matchmaking dreams might actually work out!” 

Back in New York, Skylar’s mother beamed at the sneakily taken photo of the two young 

people together. 

Uncle Dan glanced over, smiling. “So that’s the Foster boy? They look good together. It 

would be nice to have both kids settled soon.” 

Her mother nodded, still smiling. “They’re all good kids – Victoria with Callias, and now 

maybe Skylar with Aiden. Though if she and Aiden work out, she’ll probably stay in Italy…” 

“Kids have to find their own path. As long as they’re happy. Besides, I’m retiring soon – we 

can split our time between New York and Florence. Think of it as an extended vacation.” 

“Florence? You’re planning a trip to Italy?” 

Callias appeared in the doorway, slightly drunk. 

Uncle Dan’s smile vanished at his son’s disheveled state. “Out since morning, ignoring our 

calls, drinking… Skaylar today…”
