Maybe one of the bodyguards was her spy. She probably planned this all along–waiting for the day the Carlyns and the Sanders resolved their feud, only to eliminate the Carlyns right afterward. If they’re gone, it truly severs the roots of the conflict.”

I waited until she stepped through the front door of the Sanders residence before preparing to leave. But just as she reached the threshold, her body suddenly crumpled to the ground without warning.

He was out of the car in an instant. I told myself to stay calm, but it was hard to control my emotions.

Carter bent down and carefully lifted Whitney into his arms before placing her in the car. He glanced at me occasionally. “Chloe, you should head home first.” 

“Carter, I’m fine. I can’t relax unless I stay to keep an eye on Whitney.” 

He gently laid Whitney across the back seat, then turned to reassure me with a trace of helplessness. 

“If you feel unwell, tell me right away.” 

I rested a hand on my stomach and said softly, “Our child isn’t that fragile.” 

Carter’s child would never be weak. 

He tightened his grip on my hand. “Don’t worry, she’ll be okay.

When we arrived at the hospital. Whitney was rushed the emergency room immediately
