“I hurt myself while peeling an apple. It's no big deal. I'll be fine in a few days.”

Unsure whether Skylar was telling the truth, Tobias sat next to her and swiftly loosened the bandages on her arm. Then, he saw the visible knife wound.

To him, an injury like this was certainly nothing serious, but he couldn't help but worry that she was in pain.

“It's fine if you don't want to tell me the truth, but don't ever put up with anyone picking on you. You have me, so there's nothing for you to be afraid of,” remarked Tobias as he skillfully rewrapped the bandages around her arm.

Skylar grinned. “Who would ever pick on me? I'm a superstar now. I even have bodyguards! Only an idiot would think of messing with me.”

Tobias kissed her on the back of her hand. “But why does a superstar like you seem so broke? I haven't seen you buy anything for yourself. I'm curious to know where you spent all that money on.”

Skylar groaned internally. I could ask you the same thing. How could you have the heart to spend all your investors' hard-earned money?

She was so embarrassed that she couldn't bring herself to admit that almost all the money had been used to pay off debts.

Female celebrities always ate, wore, and used the best things, but she couldn't afford to buy herself anything branded at the moment.

Tobias took a debit card out of his wallet and placed it on the coffee table. Since she refused to use a black card, he figured that a regular debit card would do.

Skylar picked the card up and shoved it in Tobias' pocket. “I'm not spending your money. Men and women should be equal. Why should I use your money when I can earn my own?”

Tobias grew frustrated. “Why do you keep drawing the line and keeping a distance like that? When will you start treating me like family?”

Tobias put his cutlery down and gazed deep into her eyes. “When have I ever taken the food you like from you? You shouldn't be eating greasy stuff like this when you're injured. It'll cause your wound to heal less quickly. Don't you have any common sense?”

Skylar shook her head. No one had ever told her this. Besides, she used to live so simply that she didn't get to learn such things.

Madelyn had already left right after making dinner. It was her day off tomorrow, but she had asked Skylar if she could leave earlier.

When Skylar asked why, Madelyn had turned red and struggled to answer. It was only after a long while that she explained, “My husband's working on a site nearby. I want to see him.”

That was when Skylar recalled something. She had noticed a box of condoms while tidying one of the drawers earlier that day.
