Despite being barely able to keep her balance, Penelope planted her arms on her hips and thrust her chin forward to answer on Skylar's behalf. “How can you treat Skylar this way? I've long disapproved of you, Tobias. Skylar and you have been together for such a long time, yet you insist on keeping the relationship a secret and not giving her the rightful status she deserves.”

The words came as a shock to Skylar, who couldn't tell if Penelope really had had too much to drink or was using the opportunity to raise the issue with Tobias.

Isn't Penelope afraid someone will accuse her of being a busybody when her own life is in a mess?

Skylar naturally didn't reprimand her friend, for Penelope simply had her best interest at heart.

Meanwhile, Tobias gave Skylar a look so intense that it would send a chill down anyone's spine. It was as if he was asking her what Penelope's words meant.

Skylar simply shrugged with raised brows to proclaim her innocence.

The last thing she wanted was for Tobias to think that this was one of her tricks.

Tobias hated it whenever someone went on a drunken rant. It didn't matter if that person was male or female. When the stench of alcohol filled his nostrils, he instructed in annoyance, “Take your friend to the guest room.”

Given how tough it was to support Penelope, Skylar pleaded, “Can you lend a hand?”

“What do you want me to do? Do you expect me to carry her up?”

Penelope retorted proudly, “I don't need you to carry me. I'm not the kind who steals my best friend's man. Go flaunt your charm somewhere else, as it won't work on me.”

Despite the awkward look on Skylar's face, Tobias ended up helping to carry Penelope to the guest room, where Skylar removed the latter's shoes. After collapsing onto the bed, Penelope alternated between laughing and crying due to the effects of the alcohol. Her hair was strewn all over, and some even got into her mouth.

Skylar couldn't help but lament, “Being with a jerk can ruin one's life indeed.”

Despite the commotion at home, Madelyn still slept like a log. As long as it wasn't her working hours, she would never come down even if the house was on fire.

Tobias subsequently got Skylar to wake Madelyn up, for Penelope had puked at their door. On the way back, Skylar was worried that her friend would throw up in the taxi when the latter retched repeatedly inside. Even the driver was equally afraid of the prospect. Thus, what usually was a thirty-minute journey was shortened by one-third with the driver driving at breakneck speed. Upon alighting from the car, Skylar even tipped the driver extra for the trouble.

At the same time, Penelope did her best to hold it in. It wasn't until she reached Skylar's door that she bent down to vomit. Unfortunately, the crisp evening air wasn't enough to stem the overpowering stench of the alcohol-laden puke.

As someone mysophobic, Tobias couldn't stand the smell at all. Skylar resigned herself to retrieving the broom and mop from the storeroom so that she could clean up the mess.
