Chapter 1164
Estelle got off work early and had already sent Ms. Simmons, home.
When Emily got home, she found Estelle reading and playing games with Kya. Seeing her mom, Kya ran over excitedly and said, “Mommy, you’re back!
Emily bent down to pick her up and asked, “Have you been good today?”
“Of course I’m the best-behaved baby!” Kya declared proudly.
Estelle stood up and asked, “How was your first day at work? Did Charlie give you any trouble?”
“No worries, I made it back safe and sound!” Emily laughed, setting Kya down. “I’ll check what we have in the fridge and whip something up for us
“No need; I knew you’d be home late today, so I’ve already ordered dinner. It should be here any minute!” Estelle replied with a smile, “You must be exhausted from work, why don’t you take a break?”
Emily gave Estelle a big hug and said, “Estelle, I must have done something really good in my past life to have met you!”
Estelle chuckled. “Well, it must be a coincidence because I feel like I’m being rewarded for your good deeds in my past life.”
Emily couldn’t help but laugh, instantly forgetting about the frustrations she had faced at work with Charlie.
After dinner, Estelle went upstairs and bumped into the girl next door.
The apartment complex they lived in had two units per floor. The tenants across the hall were a young couple, but they rarely saw each other due to their busy schedules.
The girl stopped Estelle to say, “We’re moving out, and we have a lot of stuff we don’t need anymore. Would you like to come in and see if there’s anything you might want? We’ll give it to you for free!
“Thanks, but I don’t need anything at the moment.” Estelle replied with a smile.
“Alright then, our landlord suddenly sold the apartment and gave us compensation to move out as soon as possible. It’s all so rushed; we didn’t even get the chance to get to know each other!” the girl said, clearly disappointed.
Estelle and she weren’t close, she just gave her a polite smile.
“Hopefully, we’ll bump into each other again; goodbye!” the girl waved to Estelle.
Her boyfriend, lugging suitcases, came out and urged her. “Let’s go, the moving truck’s downstairs!”
‘Til just check if we’ve left anything behind!” she said, heading back into the apartment:
‘Don’t waste time; leave your stuffed animals, we can buy more later!”
“I got it!”
They laughed as the boy dragged two suitcases into the elevator. He saw Estelle and gave her a courteous smile.
Estelle responded with a small smile, then went inside her apartment
The sound of people moving and talking outside faintly echoed through the door. Estelle grabbed a drink of water and retreated to her study. The noise outside was completely blocked out, and she didn’t give it a second thought.
