Chapter 1403
Estelle sidestepped Jonathan’s hand, a shadow falling over her eyes. They had lost their usual sparkle, looking as dim as the impending dusk.
1 need some me time”
“Yvonne came to me because of Zack. She was emotional and cut her own wrist with a knife. I just had Mae bandage it up, Jonathan explained, his face
“Why was she in your bed?” Estelle asked
Jonathan furrowed his eyebrows. “I have no clue, and I was in the study next door the whole time.”
Estelle kept her head down, silent
“What’s on your mind? Can you tell me?” Jonathan asked, his mood heavy. “Don’t be like this?
Estelle kept her head down, not wanting to speak, not even wanting to look at Jonathan.
Jonathan looked at her with deep-set eyes. “Ella, don’t you trust me? After all, we’ve been through, don’t you know how much I love you? How could I ever have feelings for another woman!”
Estelle frowned. 1 feel a bit messed up. Can you leave me alone for a bit?”
“No!” Jonathan grabbed Estelle’s hand. “If you have something to say, say it. Or if you have any doubts, I’ll answer all of them.“
Estelle shook her head. I don’t know. I just want to be alone.”
“No, I can’t leave you alone at a time like this?”
A glint of indifference flashed through Estelle’s eyes. “Jonathan, there have always been issues between us, right?”
Jonathan was taken aback, his gaze hardening “What issues?”
Estelle ran a hand through her hair, pushing it back in frustration. Her mind was a jumbled mess, and she couldn’t make sense of anything.
“Tell me, what issues do we have?” Jonathan insisted, his gaze fixed on her
Estelle looked at him blankly, asking, “Jonathan, can we go back to how things were?”
“What do you mean?” Jonathan’s face, hidden in the shadows, looked severe and clear.
“Have you ever thought about marrying me?” Estelle asked softly.
“Of course, you’re already my wife,”
“Then why have you been making me take birth control?” Estelle asked.
Jonathan was struck dumb.
Estelle lowered her head, her voice gradually calming down.
“I’ve always been confused, but never asked you, just like when you saw me and Jason coming out of the little black room that day. You were clearly upset, but you didn’t ask me either. When did we start being so cautious with each other, unable to be honest?”
“I know there are feelings between us. Because of those feelings, I dare not ask. Our interactions are like walking on thin ice, afraid that any little thing will plunge our relationship into crisis again”
“We’re no longer sure about each other’s feelings. Our repaired relationship is full of cracks. It’s exhausting, isn’t it?”
Jonathan slowly bent down to sit next to Estelle, not saying a word.
