Chapter 1627

With that, she started running towards the pavilion, her pigtails bouncing.

Once inside the pavilion, Alma tumed to look at her and frowned, scolding, “Don’t run around like that. If Mrs. James comes back and can’t find you, she’ll think I didn’t take care of you!”

Kya approached Alma with her tiny hands behind her back, “Alma, I have a gift for you

“Well, even such a little one understand social graces. Alright, let me see what the giftis. If I like it, I’ll be nicer to you when you come again.”

Alma smirked, reaching out her hand to Kya. “What’s the gift? Let me see.”

Kya extended her hand and placed a wriggling caterpillar in Alma’s palm. “Do you like it?” she asked with her big innocent eyes looking at her.

“Ah!”

Alma let out a scream, and jumped up from the bench, her expression filled with terror. She frantically brushed at her clothes and ran into the mansion.

Mrs. James had just hung up the phone and turned to the garden. She asked, “What happened to her?”

Kya replied in her sweet voice, “I gave her a gift, and she was very happy!”

Mrs. James wore a bewildered expression. Was Alma screaming out of happiness?

She held Kya’s hand and said, “Let’s go pick some flowers, sweetie”

Upstairs in his study, Charlie had taken several phone calls. He could see Kya playing in the garden from his window and could faintly hear her laughter.

As he sat down to review some documents, a servant entered and said, “Sir, there’s a Miss Sullivan looking for you.”

Charlie knew Emily will come. He asked in a calm tone, “Where is she?”

“She’s In the living room.”

Charlie nodded, “Bring her to my study”

“Of course” The servant acknowledged and left.

Shortly after, Emily was escorted upstairs by the servant. She looked a bit pale with a thin sheen of sweat on her forehead, appearing nervous and anxious. She asked. “Where’s Kya?”

Charlie waved the servant to leave. Raising his brow, he asked, “Nervous about something?”

Emily tried to composed herself and asked, “Where is Kya?”

Charlie got up and walked towards her. His composed gaze fixed on her as he slowly said, “Till take you to Kya. Meanwhile, you can also meet my mother.”

Emily was a bit puzzled, “What are you saying?”

Charlie looked deeply into her eyes. “Tell my mother that I love you, and we want to be together.”

Emily was taken aback, “What do you mean?”

Charlie followed her, taking a few steps to keep her against the wall. He put his band on the wall, trapping her beneath him. He spoke slowly and deliberately. “T said, I love you, and I want to marry you. Did you hear it clearly? If not, I can say again, or a dozen times if necessary”

Emily pressed herself against the wall, her heart pounding as if it might leap out of her chest. “Charlie”

“What about you? What do you think?” Charlie stared at her, unblinking

These days of uncertainty had left him restless and anxious, and today, he needed a clear answer from her.

Emily’s mind was in chaos. His confession was too sudden and caught her off guard, she was completely unprepared.

It took her a while to gather her thoughts. Her eyes were moist as she shook her head slowly. “We can’t be together”
