Chapter 1718

Charlie studied Emily for a moment before gently reaching out to touch her face. His hand barely grazed her cheek, and the softness and delicacy of her skin stirred up deep-seated memories. His eyes lowered as he asked in a low voice, "Emily, can you stand?"

“Lcan, Emily murmured, not making any attempt to get up, continuing to sleep with her eyes closed.

Charlie let out a barely audible sigh, scooping her up and carrying her outside.

He'd come with Jonathan. Their car was parked outside. He placed Emily in the passenger seat. She leaned against the backrest, frowning in discomfort.

Without thinking, Charlie mirrored her expression, chastising her softly, “Why did you drink so much? Even after we've broken up, you're still giving me headaches!"

He fastened her seatbelt and draped his suit jacket over her before heading to the driver's seat.

The journey to Sunset Ridge was quiet, with Emily dozing off against the window.

Upon reaching their destination, Charlie carried Emily upstairs. As they entered, Ms. Simmons exclaimed, “What's happened to Emily?"

“She's fine, Charlie replied nonchalantly, “Where's Kya?"

“Kya is asleep," said Ms. Simmons quickly.

Charlie, still holding Emily, headed towards the guest room, instructing, ‘Ms. Simmons, don't go home tonight.

Sleep in the master bedroom with Kya. Emily drank a bit too much, so let her sleep in the guest room."

“Alright” agreed Ms. Simmons. It didn't matter if she went home or not. She lived alone anyway.

After checking on Kya in the master bedroom and tugging her in the blanket that she kicked off, Ms. Simmons noticed the slightly ajar door of the guest room. She peeked in to find Charlie preparing a warm towel to wipe Emily's face.

Thinking that Charlie and Emily had reconciled, Ms. Simmons retreated to her room, her heart filled with joy.

In the guest room, Charlie sat by the bed, gently wiping Emily's hands with the warm towel. Her fingers were long and delicate, incredibly soft.
