Chapter 1775
“Charlie” Mrs. James frowned at him.
Charlie turned to leave, but paused, "Oh, and just so we're clear, if you have something to say, say it to me. I don't want you going behind my back to talk to Emily. I wouldn't like that."
Mrs. James opened her mouth as if to say something, but no words came out. She watched as her son, with his steady stride and resolute back, headed towards the garden.
A sense of unease crept into her heart. She could tell that Charlie was serious this time.
At night.
As soon as the housemaid had finished bathing Kya, Charlie sent her away, and he himself picked up Kya and set her on the bed. “Tonight, I have a new story for you."
The bedside table that had been vacant the night before was now stacked high with new picture books.
Kya, soft and squishy, leaned against Charlie, "Daddy, I miss Mommy. Why hasn't she come yet?"
Charlie's hand, which was flipping through the picture book, stilled. He held Kya in his arms and whispered soothingly, "Mommy's been busy with work lately. Let's give her some space to rest, okay? In a few days, I will take you to see Mommy."
Kya, with her wide, innocent eyes, nodded understandingly, “Then I'll wait for Mommy."
“What a good girl." Charlie gave her a peck on her little head.
His phone, which was lying nearby, lit up. It was a text from Emily. [I miss Kya. Can I see her?]
A smirk played at the corners of Charlie's lips as he selected a photo from his phone's gallery and sent it to her.
