Chapter 977
For the past year, Estelle had been popping pills and avoiding spicy foods like the plague. Emily had been busting her chops to whip up tasty yet light dishes, which not only keep Estelle’s palate happy but also take Emily’s cooking skills to a whole new level.
After supper, Estelle hung out with Kya for a bit. When she saw that Kya was starting to look pooped, she headed upstairs to hit the sack.
She took a shower, changed into fresh clothes, and picked up where she left off in her book from the previous day
Just when she was about to call it a night around 10 PM, a call from Henson threw a wrench in her plans. From the sound of his voice, he seemed to be in a pickle. “Ms. Macclain!” he hollered.
Estelle sprang to her feet, “Henson, what’s the matter?”
“My uncle is running a fever and there’s no one at home. Can you swing by?” Henson asked, his voice laced with urgency
Estelle frowned, “Isn’t he in the hospital?”
“He was discharged at noon. He seemed fine in the afternoon. When he didn’t respond to my calls, I checked on him only to find him burning up. Henson explained Estelle quickly asked, “Where’s his family doctor? Call him right away”
“The doctor’s here, but my uncle is refusing to take his medicine, Henson replied.
Estelle’s face darkened, “What is he, a kid? Acting so immature!”
“Ms. Macclain, can you come over? He’s really burning up and I’m scared,” Henson’s voice started to–choke
Estelle quickly assured him, “Alright, I’m on my way. Try to get him to take his medicine.”
“Okay, hurry up!” Henson urged
After hanging up. Estelle quickly changed, grabbed her phone and car keys, and dashed out the door.
She hopped into the elevator and hit the button for the ground floor. Stepping out of her building, the night breeze whooshed through her car window and kissed her face She halted the car, gazed at the tranquil night, and her eyes began to clear.
A few minutes later, Estelle dialed Charlie’s number.
“Charlie, are you asleep? Sorry for bugging you this late,” she said.
“You’re welcome,” Charlie replied with a laugh.
Suddenly, Estelle remembered something, “Henson originally asked me to go but I’m inconveniencing you, so I…”
Charlie chuckled, “I didn’t think much about it. No need to explain more.”
Estelle let out a sigh, I’m hanging up now!
After the call, Estelle leaned back in her chair, feeling a bit peeved. Was she a bit too eager just now? Why was she so frantic? If he didn’t want to take his medicine, what was it to her?
Actually, she felt a bit guilty. After all, Jonathan got hurt protecting her. If it weren’t for him, she might be the one lying in the hospital.
Her anxiousness was just due to worrying that Henson would be flustered home alone
Having come to this realization, Estelle felt a bit better. She turned the car around, deciding to head back home and get some shut–eye.
