Mariela’s eyes showed anger. She yelled, “Stay away from me!” 

Jaime’s head moved from the slap.

‘Marie, why are you so mean to me?” 

His voice was gentle, sounding very sad. 

Mariela smirked, her eyes full of disdain.

After speaking, she didn’t let Jaime talk, turned, and shut the door loudly with a “bang.” 

Jaime stood outside, staring at the door, his dark eyes full of pain.
