Mariela arranged for Andrew and Jessie to stay in a single room at a top hospital. She asked Gia to buy them down jackets and thick blankets. 

Gia came back with red eyes. 

She sniffled, her voice shaky with tears, ‘Ms. Logan, I’ve handled everything.” 

Mariela, writing on the computer, heard Gia’s voice, slightly choked, and looked up, pausing. “Why do you seem like you’re going to cry?” 

Gia bit her lips, her eyes teary. “Jessie’s condition is worsening. The doctor said without matching bone marrow, she likely won’t survive the winter.* 

Mariela’s hand froze on the keyboard, her eyes slightly teary. 

“I’ve asked someone to find a matching bone marrow. There will be one,” Mariela’s voice quivered slightly.
