The man’s face went pale instantly, his eyes showing despair. 

Lately, Mariela had been very busy, going to court daily and managing Andrew’s injury and work capacity assessments. 

The forecast said a cold wave was coming, with temperatures dropping sharply tomorrow.

Mariela arranged for Andrew and Jessie to stay in a single room at a top hospital. She asked Gia to buy them down jackets and thick blankets. 

Gia came back with red eyes. 

She sniffled, her voice shaky with tears, ‘Ms. Logan, I’ve handled everything.” 

Mariela, writing on the computer, heard Gia’s voice, slightly choked, and looked up, pausing. “Why do you seem like you’re going to cry?” 

Gia bit her lips, her eyes teary. “Jessie’s condition is worsening. The doctor said without matching bone marrow, she likely won’t survive the winter.* 

Mariela’s hand froze on the keyboard, her eyes slightly teary. 

“I’ve asked someone to find a matching bone marrow. There will be one,” Mariela’s voice quivered slightly. 

Gia started crying, her eyes red as she looked at Mariela.“Ms. Logan, if Jessie really…” 

Mariela interrupted her, “No. Jessie will be okay.” 

Gia tried to stop crying, pressing her lips tightly to hold back tears. 

All afternoon, Mariela was distracted. 

She made a phone call. 

“Still no matching bone marrow found?” 

The staff member said, “Ms. Logan, we’re trying hard to find it. We’ll inform you when we have news.” 

In the evening, Lennon picked Mariela up from work, and they had dinner together. 

At an elegant restaurant. 

The piano music was soft and calming. 

The wine and steak were excellent, with roses and candles creating a romantic atmosphere. 

But Mariela was distracted, not eating her cold steak.
