Mariela’s room overlooked the garden downstairs from the window. 

At this time of the year, the garden presented a scene of decay, mirroring the melancholy mood of its owner. 

Mariela curled up in bed, silently crying while holding onto her blanket. 

It had been over an hour since she hung up the phone, and her tears hadn’t stopped. 

She didn’t know a person could have so many tears, as if they would never stop flowing no matter how much they were shed 

She didn’t believe that the reason why Lennon wanted to break up was because he hadn’t had enough fun. 

He was not that kind of person. 

It must have been because of Nikolas. 

He didn’t want Nikolas to hurt her, so he was eager to distance himself from her. 

But those words hurt. She couldn’t remain indifferent. 

She didn’t want to cry either, but the tears just couldn’t be controlled. 

In winter, the days got dark early, and by around six o’clock in the afternoon, it was already dusk. 

The sound of knocking came over. And Sonia stood outside the door and called softly, “Ms. Logan, dinner is ready.” 

Mariela sniffed, and her voice became hoarse, “Sonia, I’m not hungry.” 

Perhaps Sonia didn’t hear Mariela, so she knocked on the door twice again.“Ms. Logan, were you asleep?*

Mariela shook her head gently, her voice nasal, ‘I’m fine.” 

Sonia was a little worried and asked her, “Do you need me to contact Mr. Stark?” 

Sonia’s words made Mariela sadder. 

Sonia didn’t say it on purpose.

Mariela tugged at her lips and forced out a smile that was even uglier than crying. She pretended to be strong and said, “I’m fine. Maybe I’m not used to being here yet. I couldn’t help but cry when I couldn’t bear the pain of my father’s injury. Don’t worry about me.” 

Sonia didn’t know about Deandre’s injury and hospitalization, so she didn’t ask much when Mariela mentioned it. She simply said, “I’m glad 

you’re okay. You scared me. I thought something had happened to you. Mr. Stark specifically instructed that you can always reach out to him if you need anything, even if it’s something like not liking the food or having trouble sleeping.” 

Mariela was slightly taken aback.“Did he say that?” 

Sonia had a smile on her face and said, “Yes, Ms. Logan. Mr. Stark is very fond of you.”
