Mariela’s heart grew colder little by little. On the fifth attempt, the call finally went through. 

Mariela asked in a broken voice, “The news is all fake, right? The man in the photos isn’t you, right? Lenny, as long as you say it, I’ll believe 

you.” 

There was a brief silence on the other end of the phone, followed by a pleasant female voice, “Um, who is this? This is Shayla. Mr. Stark is currently taking a shower and is unavailable to take your call. Is there something I can help you with? I can relay a message to him.” 

Mariela’s heart ached, and her breath stopped. 

No response was received, Shayla said again, “Hello? Can you hear me?”

“Mariela hung up the phone.” Shayla shrugged and looked up at Lennon. “To be honest, you hurt her, didn’t you? If I were her, I would hate you for the rest of my life.” 

The woman threw the phone to Lennon and said, “I don’t mind being a shield, but you better think carefully. If a girl gets hurt too deeply, she may never forgive you.” 

The popular actress Shayla actually had another identity, the second daughter of the Bradshaw family, a decent young lady of a wealthy family. Lennon’s grandmother, Wendy, was born into the Bradshaw family in Florida. 

Shayla’s grandfather and Lennon’s grandmother were siblings, so Shayla and Lennon were relatives. 

As a popular actress, Shayla had a busy schedule every day. Either she was on set filming or appearing on variety shows. She rarely had any time for herself. While Mariela returned to New York, Shayla couldn’t find the time to meet her formally.
