Mariela was forced up the unfinished building by Nikolas’s men, 

She was terrified of heights, and the higher she climbed, the weaker her legs felt. 

The entire structure was nothing more than concrete and steel, with no railings on the stairs or safety barriers anywhere. Step by step, Mariela was made to ascend, following behind Nikolas’s men. 

She silently counted the floors. When they reached the twenty–sixth, the people in front of her stopped. 

The ones holding her back also halted. 

“What time is it?” Nikolas asked lazily. 

“It’s seven forty,” answered the man who had kidnapped Mariela the night before. 

Mariela did not know his name. 

Hearing the response, Nikolas raised an eyebrow and turned his gaze to Mariela. Tell me… Do you really think Lennon will walk into death just for you?” 

She pressed her lips together and lowered her eyes. 

“Scared?” Nikolas chuckled, “Don’t worry. If you are really that reluctant to part with him, I can grant your wish and let you two die together.” Mariela kept her head down, saying nothing.
