Gunshots echoed through the sky. 

The surrounding residents were unfazed, assuming it was just another film crew shooting in the nearby abandoned building. 

They had no idea that what was happening inside was far more thrilling than any movie. 

Ten minutes earlier. 

Lennon arrived at the building on time. 

He reached the twenty–sixth floor. 

Then he was met with a scene that made his blood run cold.

Mariela was covered in blood, her face mottled with bruises. Nikolas had his fingers wrapped around her throat, lifting her off the ground. Her feet dangled in the air, her face flushed red from lack of oxygen. 

And beneath her, there was nothing but the crumbling, railing–less edge of the abandoned high–rise, 

If Nikolas let go, she would plummet twenty–six stories to her death. 

Even with Lennon’s usual composure, there was no way he could remain calm in the face of this. His heart clenched violently, and his breath caught in his throat. 

Nikolas tightened his grip on Mariela’s neck but turned his head to glance at Lennon, raising a brow.“You’re here?” 

Lennon’s throat was dry, the taste of blood filling his mouth. 

He forced himself to steady his voice.“Put her down first.” 

“Oh? Feeling protective?” Nikolas smirked, but his grip did not loosen. 

Mariela’s breathing grew more labored, her complexion worsening by the second. She looked like she would suffocate at any moment. Lennon felt as if he were being torn apart, agony slicing through him. 

His voice came out hoarse.“I came as you asked. Now let her go.” 

Nikolas chuckled, glancing at the girl he held. 

Mariela was soaked in blood, her face turning purple, barely clinging to consciousness. 

Then, he twisted his grip and dragged her back inside before flinging her onto the floor like a ragdoll. 

“You…” Lennon’s veins bulged with rage, his body moving instinctively toward Mariela. 

The next second, a gunshot rang out. 

“Not so fast.” Nikolas toyed with a pistol in his hand, his eyes gleaming coldly. 

The bullet struck just in front of Lennon’s feet, a warning not to move any further. 

“Let’s have my men check first to make sure you came alone.” Nikolas smiled, “If you tried anything, neither of you would be leaving here alive.” Lennon stood his ground, ice–cold fury radiating from his entire being. 

He remained silent, standing straight. A moment later, one of Nikolas’s men returned with a report. “He’s alone.” 

Nikolas let out a low hum, amusement flickering in his eyes.” 

“What a devoted lover.”
