Realizing this, Mariela cast a suspicious look at Jaime. 

She asked coldly, “Why would Bruce invest in the Herman Group? Your company was on the verge of bankruptcy at that time. What benefit would there be in investing in you? I’ve investigated Bruce before. He’s profit–driven and ruthless, investing in your Herman Group doesn’t seem like his style.” 

“Because I agreed to work for Nikolas.” Jaime lowered his eyes, his tone unreadable, “And…”
