Mariela replied gently, Lennon, can’t you see what Lauryn truly wants?”

Mariela’s hand paused.“Why?” 

Lennon said. “You said she likes me. I didn’t know before; I just saw her as a sister. Now I know, I need to keep my distance.” 

He said seriously, “Marie, I want you to feel completely secure in our relationship.” 

Mariela asked, “Why do you believe me unconditionally? Lauryn grew up with you; shouldn’t you trust her more? Why believe me?” 

Lennon gazed at her, his eyes gentle.“I told you
