The police tried to pry her away, but Lydia shouted desperately, "Tell Rose it’s Howell and that troublemaker Flora! I'm being framed!"

"Wait, you're Lydia? The one who interviewed at Rose's Studio a few days back?" Kaylee gave Lydia a steely look.

"Yes, yes, that’s me!" Lydia felt a spark of excitement, thinking recognition might help her case.

"That troublemaker Flora seduced Howell, then framed—"

"Flora, long time no see."

Kaylee’s cheeks flushed with color. She had missed Flora dearly.

"Yeah, it's been a while."

Flora replied with lazy familiarity. The two clearly shared a tight bond, and Lydia, watching them, felt a mental snap. She realized how foolish she must have seemed, trash-talking Flora right in front of Kaylee.
