"It was a woman named Flora!" Davis blurted out, worried that Nathan might not recognize the name. "Sophie got hurt because of her. She actually had the nerve to shoot Sophie, leaving her in this state! Uncle, she's my only precious daughter, and now she's been harmed like this! I can’t just let that woman walk away from this!"

Nathan let out a noncommittal hum. "So, what are you planning to do about it?"

"Just putting a bullet in her would be too easy. She deserves to have her bones broken, her limbs cut off, and to be tortured slowly!" Davis's voice rose with anger, oblivious to Nathan’s growing glacial demeanor.

Taking a deep breath to contain his rage, Davis added with a hint of gratitude, "Uncle, you've always had health issues, yet you came all the way to the medical center for Sophie's sake."

He felt his importance in Nathan's eyes must have increased. Maybe, this year, he could finally spend the holidays with the main family.

Jenna, too, was surprised and flattered that Nathan had come personally on her behalf. The Neville family was small, Nathan had no wife or children, and although Jenna was from a branch of the family, she felt like she held some weight in Nathan’s heart. Maybe one day, she could even be part of the main family. But now, with her hands shattered, she couldn't even hold a scalpel or a gun without difficulty.

The more she thought about it, the more wronged Jenna felt. Her voice quivered, "Great-uncle, it hurts so much... You have to stand up for Sophie!"

"Stand up for you? Why don’t you first tell me what you’ve been up to?" Nathan sneered. "Besides, who said I came here for you?"

For her? She was taken aback by her own assumption. Jenna's tears halted, her face turning beet red.

She realized she had jumped to conclusions.

Davis shared her embarrassment; he figured Nathan wouldn’t have made the trip for Jenna. With a sheepish chuckle, he hesitantly asked, "So, Uncle, you’re here for—?"

"The head of the family is here for Miss Flora," Nathan’s butler chimed in.

As Davis's mind raced with possibilities, Nathan began to speak slowly.

"Flora—" Nathan settled back in his chair, resting his hand on the armrest, "is my mentor and a benefactor to the entire Neville family."

When Nathan mentioned the word mentor, he even raised his chin proudly.

The butler could hardly maintain his composure.

Davis stumbled, staring at Nathan in disbelief, nearly losing his footing. He questioned whether he had heard correctly. That woman from Austenberg, Flora, was Nathan's mentor?
