Brianna had wrapped up her answers.

She got stuck on questions nineteen and twenty, so she just left them blank and flipped back through the test. She managed to nail question four, but the second part of question five was a head-scratcher, so she skipped it. Time was ticking away, and thirteen minutes had already flown by.

Both remaining sections still had eight questions unsolved. At the University of Maple Grove, six questions were still up in the air. Over at Imperial College, they had five left. However, the answers Imperial College provided were nearly flawless, almost perfect. On the other hand, the University of Maple Grove had some correct answers, but missed steps would cost them points.

Two more minutes ticked by, and Imperial College cracked another question! That was their limit, though; they decided to throw in the towel on the remaining four. Meanwhile, the University of Maple Grove was stuck in a rut. These programming application questions were brutal if you didn’t know the ropes.

Brianna was about to burst into tears, angry at herself for not being able to figure it out. Jules was watching from above, probably disappointed in her performance… Ivan and Maddox didn’t look too happy either. But this was expected; the Computer Science department at the University of Maple Grove just couldn’t compete with Imperial College.

“Are you guys giving up?” Flora asked with a smirk, her eyes half-closed as she looked at them.

“Stop being so snarky!” Brianna snapped, even more frustrated.

Yeah, they couldn’t solve it! But what gave Flora the right to say anything when she hadn’t answered a single question herself?

“Getting mad every day is going to make you ugly, you know,” Flora shot her a glance, then straightened up in front of her computer and picked up a pen. She still had that laid-back vibe, but her hand started moving quickly across the writing pad, jotting down formula after formula.

“She… solved it!” Maddox’s eyes went wide in disbelief.

“Exactly, the University of Maple Grove could’ve won, but Flora’s stubbornness blew it…”

The gap between University of Maple Grove and Imperial College was significant. For the University of Maple Grove to win, they needed to solve three questions perfectly without losing any points, which was nearly impossible.

Application programming questions are complicated; even if you’re just copying answers, three questions would take more than three minutes because the diagrams and formulas are so intricate.
