Flora just couldn't wrap her head around it. Selene's expression was genuinely off.
"Because I love him!" she declared.
And she had loved him for many, many years!
"Cough, cough, cough!"
Flora almost choked on her own spit, staring at Selene with wide eyes, her voice trembling, "What did you just say?"
Was it the kind of 'love' she thought it was?
"Flora, I'm not joking with you. I've been in love with S for three years. Can you take me to see him?"
Selene wouldn't have come to Flora if she wasn't desperate.
She'd finally made it back to Austenberg and had a shot at attending Club 257's annual meeting. If she didn't see S this time, she might never get another chance.
Flora: "......"
Had Selene lost her marbles?
Why would she fall for her?
"Actually... I am S."
Flora said it seriously; she didn't want to mess up the young girl's life.
She'd rather reveal her secret, but when Selene heard her, she was first stunned, then angry and annoyed, her face turning red: "If you didn't want to take me to see S, you could've just said so. Why lie to me?"
"I am S."
"Flora, you've really let me down!"
Selene felt humiliated. They might not be best friends, but they shared a bond. She'd poured her heart out, only to be mocked.
After venting her frustration, Selene shot Flora a fiery glare before storming off.
Flora felt utterly helpless.
These days, nobody believes the truth.
If they don't believe it, so be it.
"What's going on?"
Seeing Selene leave, Connor walked over, his voice gentle.
"Nothing," Flora shrugged.
Connor handed her a cocktail: "I made this for you. Give it a try."
Meanwhile, Selene angrily returned to her room. As she passed Mr. Atticus's room, she noticed the door was wide open, with a crowd inside.
A young girl lay weakly on the bed, with Mr. Atticus examining her.
"Selene?" Mr. Atticus noticed her and waved her over. "Come in."
"Mr. Atticus."
Selene entered, greeting him politely.
"Mr. Elio, this is my star student, Selene. Though she's only been with the medical organization for less than a year, her skills are exceptional, truly a rare genius," Mr. Atticus signaled to Selene, who nodded: "Pleased to meet you, Mr. Elio."
Elio responded indifferently. He wasn't interested in who was a genius; he was here for Nina.
"I wonder if you can cure my daughter, Mr. Atticus?"
Mr. Atticus's eyes gleamed, and he said with a smile, "Of course, it's possible. But it will take some time."
Selene frowned. Was it really possible?
Elio had already brought Nina in the afternoon, and at that time, only she and Mr. Atticus were examining her, and Mr. Atticus had said it was incurable.
How could it suddenly be curable in just a few hours?
