"Head back, and once I wrap up here, I'll come see you."
Even though the main players had left, there was still a mountain of issues to deal with. Figuring out who poisoned everyone was at the top of the list. The fact that someone could poison people at Club 257 without getting caught was alarming. If Flora hadn't been there, who knows how things would have ended. The thought alone was enough to give anyone chills. Catching the culprit quickly was crucial to prevent any future incidents.
The next morning, Connor and Flora left the island together. In the car, Flora absently played with her phone.
Dr. Ray hadn’t mentioned Flora's leave to Raul and Henrik, so they were still clueless about her absence. They assumed Flora had spent the entire weekend with Connor. At the moment, they were airing their grievances in the group chat.
Having looked forward to the weekend, they were disappointed that Flora had spent all her time with Connor, neglecting to visit them. "Women, they grow up and forget their roots!" they lamented.
Flora couldn’t help but chuckle at their messages, responding with a laughing emoji. Seeing her reply, Raul and Henrik became even more animated. Normally reserved in person, they became much more lively online, freely expressing thoughts they’d usually keep to themselves.
Henrik tagged her in a message: "Flora, are you free for lunch today? I need to talk to you about something."
Flora readily agreed. Raul asked Henrik to bring back an extra meal for him too.
Connor arranged for Moss and Beck to drop Flora off at the University of Maple Grove before heading back to Shallow Bay. They arrived at 8:56 AM. Connor handed her his jacket: "Should I pick you up for lunch?"
"I need to check with my brother first."
Connor nodded, watching her leave before getting back into the car. Moss drove off, heading back to Shallow Bay.
...
Flora’s absence had been keenly felt in the lab, and her colleagues were thrilled to see her return.
"Hmph," Dr. Ray snorted. "Get back to work. Produce more trash, and you know the consequences."
The colleagues scattered like birds.
Dr. Ray adjusted his glasses, gave Flora a brief look, and said, "Now that you're back, focus on your work. Catch up on what you've missed."
"Understood."
As Dr. Ray entered his office, Alexa walked in from outside. Seeing Flora, she instinctively shuddered, then a wave of excitement washed over her. Flora was back, and Alexa could finally set her plan in motion.
She quickly pulled out her phone, opened her contacts, and sent a message to the top-listed name.
