“If Flora has to go, can I accompany her?” Shawn offered. With him there, at least Flora wouldn’t be alone, reducing the chances of any foul play.

The assistant shook his head again. If anyone saw Mr. Otto in his current state, his job would be at risk.

“Mr. Otto said only Miss Flora is to come down.”

Shawn frowned, even more concerned about letting Flora go alone.

The assistant turned to Flora, almost pleading: “Please don’t make this difficult for me, Miss. Just come down with me. I’m just doing my job.”

“I’m not going down,” Flora said, a sly smile playing on her lips and a twinkle of mischief in her eyes. “If Mr. Otto wants to see me, he can come up himself.”
