Joe listened to Luke's confident speech and chuckled, "Well said." Adrian and the others felt a chill run down their spines. What did "well said" even mean? Could it be that Joe actually bought into Luke's story? Zachary noticed Joe's serious expression and assumed he truly agreed with Luke, so he let his guard down. Maybe he was just overthinking things.
"It looks like Joe believes what the Jones family is saying," someone murmured. "Does this mean the Reyes family's racing team is really going to fall apart today?" The room was filled with uneasy sighs. Deep down, most of them were rooting for the Reyes family. Karter, from the Reyes side, was known to be way more generous and likeable than the Jones family. He was the kind of guy people genuinely liked.
Luke was over the moon hearing Joe's words. Gaining Joe's approval was a big deal! Maybe Joe would invite him to join Racing Club 257, or even better, offer him a position there. Perhaps he could even become the next president of the club. His mind was racing with dreams of future glory.
Then, out of the blue, Joe turned to Flora and bowed deeply. "Ms. Flora, I'm sorry," he said. "I've really dropped the ball managing Club 257. I've caused you trouble and let this riffraff offend you." His voice was filled with respect and sincerity, almost like he was trying to make amends. Luke's grin froze on his face. Meanwhile, Zachary, who'd just started to relax, was so shocked he jumped to his feet.
The room fell silent. Everyone was staring at Joe, stunned and speechless. Was Joe really apologizing to Flora? And calling her Ms. Flora, no less?! "Whoa! Did I just hear that right? Joe's acting all respectful towards Flora!" Kruz was in disbelief.
Joe shot him a look, cool and mocking, "Yeah, so what?" Luke was left speechless. What did "so what" even mean? Then Joe, still expressionless, added, "Was it my doing? Any issues with that?"
Luke finally caught on. Everything that happened was Joe's doing! Flora always getting the top spot, that was him! The public embarrassment Luke faced, that was him too! "You, the Jones family, don't you know what you've done?" Joe wasn't just addressing Luke now; he was calling out Zachary as well.
