He’d already played dirty, tarnishing Flora’s name; did he really think he’d get a fair chat now? "As the head of Race Club 257, I have the final say on who stays or leaves. I’m telling you to get lost; do I really need your permission?"

"Joe!" Zachary shouted, absolutely floored! He couldn't wrap his head around why Joe was suddenly so protective of the Reyes family. It was blatant favoritism with no sense of fairness! Even Flora couldn’t help but stare at Joe. Catching her look, Joe stood a bit taller and flashed her a reassuring smile. Flora just blinked, speechless.

"Joe, how can you be so biased as the president of Race Club 257?" Zachary was fuming, almost bursting with anger. "Aren’t you worried about the backlash if word gets out? How can you run things like this?"

"Backlash? Let them laugh in my face if they dare." Joe wasn’t fazed. He didn’t even want the presidency. Typically, he was laid-back, not one to make enemies. But racers are known for their fiery tempers, and today was special because Flora was there. Naturally, he had to impress her. As for everyone else, why should he care? He barely had enough time to win Flora over.

Besides, the Jones family had turned the whole competition into chaos. Booting them from Race Club 257 was already cutting them a break. A metallic taste filled Zachary’s mouth, his anger almost making him spit blood. If he kept talking to Kruz, he might really keel over from rage. He took a deep breath, his eyes dark and filled with spite as he glared at Flora: "Yes, I demand evidence, or I’ll never admit a thing."
