In the square, two helicopters awaited. One was for Flora and Connor's return to Austenberg, and the other for Adrian and Kruz's journey to Empire Base. Adrian and Kruz looked like they were heading to their doom.

"Flora, I got you some snacks for the trip," Ethan said, handing her a bag, then slowly passed another to Kruz. "Here you go, big guy."

"I don't like this stuff," Kruz grumbled but took it anyway.

Karter and Amanda offered some last-minute advice, and the group boarded the helicopter.

His voice was calm, but something simmered beneath the surface. Candace's expression shifted as she sensed his mood.

"What do you mean?" she asked, trying to sound confident but raising her voice. "Jaden! What do you mean!"

Jaden slapped the document against her face.

"What do I mean, Candace? Playing me for a fool, is that your idea of fun?"

"You saved me? When you found me, I was already on the shore. You took me home because of the jade pendant around my neck, right? You even pawned it, realized its value, and then pretended you saved me."

"From start to finish, you've been nothing but a vain, utterly hypocritical woman."

"Who told you that! It was I who saved you! How can you doubt me!"
