“It’s time you two talked,” Remington says as Colsen crosses the small room and takes a seat at the table.

His movements are slow and intentional. He’s not in a rush, and he wants everyone to know it.

As a man who likes to be in control, I respect it.

“There is too much bad blood between you, even though you should be in business.”

“I have no bad blood with him,” I say, leaning back in my chair and putting my hands on the table.

Still, I share a look with my captain, letting him know to be ready in case this goes south.

“Bullshit,” Colsen says, leaning back and resting an arm over the back of his chair.

There it is again, that unreliability. Colsen is rumored to kill at will, unafraid of the consequences.

Now, he fixes me with a confident stare. “I know you went the warden, told him to take me out. Told him I’m too green to handle my trade.”

I blink, neither confirming nor denying the accusation.

But inside, I’m pissed. Someone leaked the information, and someone is going to pay for it.

As if reading my mind, Colsen smirks.

“Don’t bother looking within your people for who spilled the news. The warden told me himself.”

Colsen slowly leans forward, looking me in the eye. “Just before I cut his throat.”

I clench my teeth as I take in this boy, this kid—who has the fucking gall—

God dammit. I struggle to control my anger in this moment, to make sure none of it is visible on my face.

I refuse to give these two anything.

But, inside, I know all of this is a blow.

I worked hard to get the warden on my side.

And out of it, in the end, I get nothing.

Remington and Colsen are a team now, and with no warden in my back pocket…

This puts me at a disadvantage.

And I’m not used to being at a disadvantage.
