Chapter 6

Daphne stood frozen outside the hall, her mind roaring like thunder.

Her heart trembled violently.

Matthew had come to the church on their wedding anniversary, but it was to pray for Charlotte.

Her hands clenched into fists at her sides, nails digging deep into her palms, almost drawing blood. But the physical pain was nothing compared to the tearing feeling in her heart.

Daphne turned away and walked back to the wishing tree where she and Matthew had once made their vows. Now, all she felt was disgust and irony.

In the next moment, she reached out and ripped down the remaining prayer ribbons.

In doing so, she tore away every memory she shared with Matthew!

She shredded the ribbons into pieces and threw them into the air, letting the wind carry them away- An unreliable marriage wasn't worth holding on to; it was better to let it blow away!

Daphne descended the steps, one by one, never looking back.

Returning to the villa, she headed straight upstairs.

Just as she was about to enter her room, Charlotte, who was supposedly resting and weak, suddenly appeared.

A mocking smile curled on her lips. "Daphne, did you enjoy your time at the church? I specifically asked Matthew to go and pray for me."

"How did you know I went to the church?" Daphne was shocked, but more than anything, she was confused.

Charlotte stepped closer, her eyes glinting with satisfaction.

"Matthew slept beside me last night. Of course, I know everything about his movements, including the anniversary you two planned."

Daphne was stunned, staring at the woman's rosy complexion, disbelief and doubt in her eyes.

"Charlotte, you weren't really poisoned, were you?"

"That's right." Charlotte smirked.

She leaned in close to Daphne's ear, her whisper sharp as a knife:]

"I'm just making sure Matthew's heart drifts away from you, little by little, and closer to me."

Daphne felt a wave of suffocating pain in her chest, anger and despair intertwining.
