She arrived ten minutes early.
Soon after, she spotted Nanson emerging from the crowd with a suitcase in tow. He wasn't alone. Nanson was chatting and laughing with someone as they walked out together.
That person had an impressive stature, holding a walking cane with an air of elegance that made him stand out effortlessly in the throng. He was strikingly noticeable.
Was that... Sherman?
Anthea raised an eyebrow. Since when had Nanson gotten so chummy with Sherman? Hadn't he always had a gripe against the man? She distinctly remembered Nanson once threatening Sherman with a metal pipe. What had changed? Was she imagining things?
"Niece!" Nanson called out, dragging his suitcase over to Anthea.
Only then did Anthea notice a white bandage on his forehead. "Uncle, are you hurt?" she asked.
Nanson chuckled. "Ah, just a little mishap in Pellonia. It's nothing serious now, thanks to Sherman! If it weren't for him, you might not be seeing your uncle today!"
Sherman? Anthea discreetly frowned. Did she hear that right?
Nanson went on to recount the events of that night. Hearing the tale, Anthea was genuinely alarmed. No wonder Nanson's attitude towards Sherman had shifted so dramatically. Given the current chaos in Pellonia, with crimes happening almost daily, being in a foreign land without Sherman’s intervention would indeed have been perilous for Nanson.
"Thank you, Sherman," Anthea said sincerely.
Sherman replied coolly, "Think nothing of it. Just lending a hand."
Anthea turned to Nanson, "Uncle, why didn’t you tell me something this serious happened?"
Nanson laughed it off, pulling Anthea along. "A mere scratch! No need to make a fuss! Come on, let's find somewhere to eat. Plane food is terrible, and Sherman and I are starving!"
Anthea let it go and didn't press further.
The trio made their way to the parking lot. Anthea drove while Sherman and Nanson settled in the back. Given Nanson's injury, Anthea drove cautiously.
Soon, they arrived at an upscale vegetarian restaurant. Sherman glanced at the restaurant’s name, a subtle smile gracing his lips. The trip to Pellonia had been worthwhile after all.
Anthea led the way. As they approached the entrance, a few rambunctious kids dashed out, causing her to stumble. Nearly falling, she was swiftly caught around the waist by Sherman, who steadied her with a gentle pull.
