Wendy's words set off a chain reaction.

The atmosphere was tense—guests were on edge, and staff members were rushing about. Their footsteps echoed throughout the villa.

Hidden in the shadows, Wendy clung to Melvin's arm, restraining the restless man beside her while keeping her sharp eyes locked on the villa's front gate.

"Serena, I can't wait to see you stumble out of there in disgrace, half-dressed and humiliated!"

But moments later, Serena did appear—but not how Wendy had expected. She emerged from a path near the villa and startled Wendy so much that she yelped from behind the bushes.

"What the hell?"

"What's wrong, babe?" Melvin lifted his head in response to Wendy's sharp whisper.

Serena was walking calmly toward the front entrance, only to be quickly stopped by a few alert maids.

"Mrs. Larson! It looks like your room was broken into—possibly by that pervert hiding inside. The situation isn't clear yet, so we can't let you go in."

"There are usually only a few of us and the butler on the island, so that creep must've come on the boat. Please wait just a little longer while we investigate.

"Your luggage has already been placed in another room..." The staff surrounded Serena attentively.

Melvin narrowed his eyes and suddenly yanked Wendy by the hair.

"Babe, who exactly is this woman you want revenge on? Why are Hugh's maids treating her with so much respect?

"And weren't we supposed to stage some scandalous scene inside the room? Why is she walking in from outside?"

Melvin had arranged the creep for the setup and paid a hefty sum to keep things quiet. But this was still Hugh's territory.

Worried about getting into trouble, he pulled Wendy roughly in front of him and growled, "Explain!"

The pain brought tears to Wendy's eyes.

She wanted to ask the same thing! Why wasn't Serena in the room? Then who made all that noise inside?

Now, being interrogated by Melvin, she felt a twinge of fear. If their plan got exposed, it would only push her further away from Zach.

After briefly hesitating, she clenched her jaw and said defiantly, "So what if she wasn't in the room? The plan failed—why are you freaking out?"

At that, Melvin released her.
