“F***!! Why the hell is that she–wolf still in Emerald Bright Pack?!” my uncle roared, tossing the photos of Reuben and Willow’s k*ss from her welcome party away. “After being confronted with all of the evidence of her love affair with that hunter, he dared to embrace that d*rty little whore! How dare he insult you in such a way?!” He banged his fist down on the desk in a burning rage that he could obviously not let out as the person. offending him again and again was Reuben. 

“I see that he has gone blind under the glow of this woman’s love whether it is from a mate bond or not,” he scratched the photos with his claws, “It would have been great if that mysterious attack would have taken place on Wade Moon that day then she would have been killed by that mysterious fire!” He cursed non stop as if it were the only thing he could do. 

“Uncle, you are being too loud. You are just making my headache worse,” I murmured, keeping my eyes closed and leaning back motionlessly against the chair. 

“You have a headache because I am loud?!” He snapped at me, “My niece returned to our pack in tears and is unwilling to return to her own fiancee’s pack? A place that she is supposed to spend the rest of her life! Do you have any f**king idea how I am feeling at this moment?” his eyes were red. I was my uncle’s pride, when I was hurt, he could not bear the sight of it. 

That night, I returned the pack after my encounter with Oran. Reuben had openly threatened and insulted me thanks to Willow. Then when that had not been enough humiliation Oran had added to my broken state by revealing the fact that our brief relationship in the past was a mistake in his mind. A mistake that he knowingly committed. Even though I could not understand the meaning behind his words, I felt utterly humiliated. 

I left the party only to encounter Willow and Reuben k*ssing in the clearing. That had been when I reached my breaking point, as it was no longer one side k*ss from Reuben. Willow had k*ssed Reuben back. 

“It has been two days and he has neither called nor come to bring you back. Isn’t he dishorning his fiancee with his actions? I will not tolerate it! I will not f**king let this stand to pass,” growling, he picked up the receiver,

I just smiled and walked past him, my expression becoming void of emotion, “Now I am done being the one that is hurt!”

Her eyes were big and she was sweaty. Hiding her panic, she managed to give me a nervous smile and said, “You…you said…we would… we would go for a run!! Let’s go!”

“Yes, I am coming,” I pulled away from Reuben and turned to exit the office. When Reuben’s arms were left empty, Dex let out a dissatisfied growl. Mia flinched in horror, practically running out of the room but I kept my back straight and quickly walked out without looking back at him. 

Unknown to me, Walter, who had been observing the scene the entire time, came over to Reuben. “What was that?” 

Reuben remained silent for a couple of seconds as he looked down at his hand, “She is definitely hiding something from me. I can tell something is off, I just can’t put my finger on what it is,” he murmured. 

“Does it have something to do with what you call the mate bond?” Walter looked at Reuben’s hand. “Why is your mate bond still so strong with her when you two were separated for six years? It should have weakened by now seeing that she hates you.” 

Reuben raised his gaze to look at Walter, answering his question with one of his own, “What do you think?” 

Walter blinked, realizing the answer on his own. 

When Mia and I both made it to her house, Mia shut the door behind her and let out a shriek of fear, “Shit! I can’t believe I lied in front of the Alpha!” She pulled at her hair in 

fear. 

On the other side of the room, I grabbed the pill box from her bedside table, sat on the bed quickly taking another pill. To avoid Reuben’s suspicion I had hidden the pills at Mia’s place. I groaned, closing my eyes, “This heat…it is really making me insane. I don’t know how I will make it through tonight,” I buried my face in my hand enduring the pain that was growing inside me. Pain that was a clear indication that my heat was going to be over tonight.
