Chapter 57 

The day Reuben saved me from the rogue trafficking ring, I fell for him. I slowly realized he was the man I wanted in my life and nothing else mattered. His gentle 

nature, his devotion, and his love had all been reserved just for me, and that gave me a sense of security. After learning that he was my soulmate, there was nothing else for me to wish for. The problem was the more I loved him, the more my fears became centered around him. 

My greatest fear was… Reuben’s sudden disappearance. 

He used to disappear without a word, never telling me why. With my own dark secrets and past in my life, I never dared to ask him about it, no matter how scared I was. 

Until that night when I opened the door of my house, I never expected that Reuben would be standing on my doorstep. He had disappeared for a week only to reappear in front of me at this time of night. His sudden return was as surprising as his flushed face, which was blood red. His hair was messy and his wolf’s eyes were slightly hidden beneath it were filled with nothing but lust.

When I opened my eyes the bed beside me was empty, he was gone. I knew he had just stepped out. Quickly throwing on some clothes, I rushed out of my house despite my whole b*dy feeling like a giant toothache. 

“Reuben!” I found him in the clearing, just as he was about to open his car door. When he heard my voice, he turned with a big smile and spread his arms. I rushed into his embrace, hugging him tightly. “Are you leaving again? When will you be back?” 

He chuckled and k*ssed my forehead, “Soon, I’ll be back very soon.” 

“Then I’ll be waiting for you, I raised my tip toes and gave him a soft k*ss on the l*ps, which wasn’t enough for him. He k*ssed me deeply and passionately before reluctantly pulling away and driving off. 

I watched his car until it disappeared from the clearing, already feeling his absence. 

Taking a deep breath, I turned around and found an old man standing in the clearing. watching me. My face turned pale when I realized it was none other than Elder Frank. He was one of the royals and an acquaintance of Alpha Louis. I didn’t know why, but he visited the Emerald Bright Pack from time to time. 

“So this is the reason Alpha Reuben left all that important work tonight?” he raised hist brows, his gaze becoming absolutely disgusted when it fell on me. “Did you sleep with him?” he asked. 

My whole b*dy grew cold with fear. He had seen everything–me with Reuben, ust k*ssing. The only thought that crossed my mind was that I was doomed. If he told Alpha Louis about Reuben and me, I would be rejected and banished. I would lose Reuben. 

“Didn’t you hear what I just asked?” He walked closer to me, taking note of all the bite marks on the exposed skin of my n*eck. 

Trembling in fear I tried to cover my n*eck, but it was no use. I lost my voice as he stood. face to face with me.

“Are you listening to me?!” He suddenly barked and slapped me. 

I fell to the ground, my hand instinctively covering my cheek where the sting of his slap lingered. I was shocked and in pain. 

Before I could fully process what had happened, he roughly grabbed my hair and yanked me up. “How dare a slut like you be rude to royalty?” he sneered. 

“I’m sorry. I’m sorry,” I sobbed, tears streaming down my face as I pleaded for mercy but he showed no compassion. “Please, let me go. Please…” 

“Not before you tell me exactly what your relationship with him is,” he growled, tightening his grip on my hair, causing me more pain. “Are you his whore?” He repeated his question. 

Tears streamed down my cheeks as the fear of death gripped my heart. I knew what he wanted to hear, and in my agony and humiliation, I whispered, “Yes,” admitting to the false accusation of being my mate’s whore. 

He suddenly looked satisfied, and just when I thought he would let me go, I felt a d*rty lick on my cheek from him. “He really has good taste in whores,” he chuckled, touching me inappropriately. 

I burst into tears out of fear and helplessness. I never thought that the touch of another man could be so scary. He shoved me away in disgust, causing me to fall to the ground again.

don’t believe me, then ask anyone around the pack. Or better yet, ask your so- called friend, Mia. She will tell you how respectfully I was called over to this pack to sign those marriage papers,” she stated proudly. “Reuben and I even exchanged rings,” she added, showing me her ring finger. 

I took a step back in shock, shaking my head. That’s impossible. I know you are lying

“My words will be proven correct when the Elder or someone else comes out of the packhouse and announces our wedding date,” she remarked confidently, happiness evident in her eyes. 

Tears threatened to appear in my eyes but I controlled them, “Reuben will not marry you. He has Wyatt and Lori. He loves them. I am his soulmate….” 

She interrupted me. “You were his soulmate that day too when he brought another woman into the pack six years ago, right? She was his choice over you at that time. Now I am, though he does not want to admit it to you,” she declared.. 

Her words pierced me like icy shards, freezing me in shock. 

“Don’t misunderstand, Willow. I didn’t come between you and Reuben,” Ella said, her voice cutting through the air. “Because Reuben never wanted to hold your hand. You can be his soulmate, you can be the mother of his children, but you can never be his Luna. If he wanted you, he would have never hidden you from the world. If he wanted you, he would have broken the marriage contract with me the moment you returned, but he never did. Do you know why? He wants his Alpha position, and I, as an Alpha’s daughter, can help him achieve it. Not an Omega like you,” she declared, closing the distance between us until we were face to face.
