The cameraman scrambled off in a panic, leaving Debra and Juan hiding behind the trees.
Juan was about to chase after him, but Debra stopped him, her hand gripping his tightly.
"Don't. They aren't after him. If he stays with us, he'll be in even more danger."
Juan's brows knitted together. "What's going on? Are you hiding something from me?"
"This isn't the time for explanations. We have to move." Debra grabbed his arm and pulled him deeper into the forest.
Whoever was targeting them had spotted them. They needed to find a place to hide fast.
"What's going on?"
Juan's question echoed behind her. Debra was wondering about the same thing. So far, she couldn't identify these people.
They might be sent by Edgar, Drake, Shelia, or Melody.
Debra's mind raced, weighing all the possibilities. Judging by how their attackers moved, they looked like professionals. That pointed to Edgar or Drake.
But then again, this was Seamar City. There were plenty of people who wanted Juan dead.
"They know our every move. They must've known we were coming here for this reality show. Juan, have you offended anyone recently?"
"I've made plenty of enemies, but the only one who'd shoot at me is Marion."
Debra nearly tripped at the answer.
"Be careful!"
Juan caught her just as she was about to fall. Debra winced at the sharp pain in her ankle.
Juan was panting. His face was pale and drawn from the strain.
"Put me down now."
"There's a cave up ahead."
"Are you serious? How is that possible?"
Debra followed his gaze and saw a small cave, half-hidden by overgrown shrubs. The rain had started to fall, and Juan looked like he was about to collapse. Finding any sort of shelter felt like a miracle.
Juan set Debra down, and the two of them supported each other as they made their way into the cave. Just in case, Debra camouflaged the entrance with some branches and leaves. The space inside wasn't big, but it was enough to shield them from the elements, though it was a little damp.
As they caught their breath, Debra wrinkled her nose. "Do you smell that? It's like sea air."
