Chapter 135: ESPER X GUIDE

KI GAYOON, seventeen years old.

They called it a ’Rampage.’

Ki Gayoon couldn’t really remember what happened after his mind went blank.

All he remembered was killing strong dungeon monsters that came out of a high-grade Gate.

He was in a good condition.

It was shocking enough to know that he had been unconscious for a week.

"How are you feeling, Gayoon-ah?" Ryu Sungbin asked worriedly. "The doctor said that the Rampage was caused by you using your ability past its limits. They’re not yet done studying your condition, but I heard the Researchers saying it may happen to other Espers, too. So, starting tomorrow, they’ll start checking on our conditions."

They’re treating us like lab rats again.

"Gayoon-ah?"

"I’m fine, Sungbin Hyung," Gayoon said, pausing for a moment. "Where are the other kids?"

"Hey, you’re the middle child~ Surely, I’m not included in those "kids," right?"

That noisy one was Jin Sooin.

"Only Sarang and Matthew are the kids on our team~"

Lee Sarang and Matthew were behind Jin Sooin, everyone entering his Capsule as if it was their own.

Well, they’re my team.

The five of them were the only naturally awakened S-Class Espers in the country so far. Hence, the Facility— aka the government branch in charge of raising the First Generation of Espers— put them in one team.

But each of us leads an Away Mission Team. After all, the strongest Espers in the country can’t be dispatched to the same place at once.

"Gayoon-ah, are you ignoring me?"

"Yes, Noona," Gayoon said bluntly. "So, please don’t talk to me."

"Yah!"

"Noona, calm down," Matthew said while stopping Jin Sooin from attacking Gayoon. "You know Gayoon Hyung is always like that to everyone."

"Oppa, why are you so mean to Sooin Unnie?" Lee Sarang, the youngest among them, asked while clinging to Gayoon’s arm. "Sooin Unnie was worried about you. She cried a lot when you didn’t wake up after two days!"

"Sarang-ah, that’s supposed to be a secret!"

Matthew and Ryu Sungbin laughed when Jin Sooin blushed as if she was embarrassed.

Gayoon didn’t want to admit this, but he finally felt at peace while watching his team goof around as usual.

He just hated seeing the boring white uniform that they had to wear in the Facility.

I don’t like how those Researcher bastards are keeping us under surveillance.

"Gayoon-ah, you should go and see your Away Mission Team members," Ryu Sungbin said while patting his back. "Your Vice Captain was so worried about you."

That would be Kang Dabin— the only friend Gayoon had outside his original team.

A knock on the door snapped Gayoon of his idle thoughts.

"My dear Elites, are you all there?"

Only one person in the Facility referred to their team as the Elites— and that would be Yosef Lee, the Korean-American Executive Director of the Facility.

"Ah, I’m glad you’re all here."

The door opened, and then a tall man with light blond hair entered the Capsule. He was wearing a pair of thick glasses and a white lab coat with the Facility’s emblem.

Yosef Lee.

"Gayoon-ah, I have some good news for you!" Yosef Lee said cheerfully while looking at Gayoon with sparkling eyes. "I’ve finally found the person who can help you with your Rampage!"

Gayoon knitted his eyebrows, annoyed by the strong perfume lingering in the air.

But, before he could complain, Yosef Lee stepped aside and let a middle-aged woman in.

Red hair.

Red lips.

Red dress.

Red heels.

And red eyes.

"Hello, Gayoon-ah," the middle-aged woman— probably in her early or mid-forties— "Starting today, I will be your partner."

This obnoxious, perverted woman would be later known as ’Mother’ among Espers.

NOH YIHUN, sixteen years old.

Yihun awakened as a Guide during the so-called ’First Generation of Espers’ Downfall.’

Aka the era when the five naturally awakened S-Class Espers began losing their minds.

The elite Espers’ "downfall" happened five years after the ’Doomsday.’

Ki Gayoon— the #1 Esper in South Korea, now in his early twenties— had a very bad Rampage last year, on the very same day that Yihun awakened as an E-Class Guide.

I almost died back then since Esper Ki Gayoon-ssi blew up the Facility.

Yihun got buried under the debris from the explosion, and he got trapped under those things for at least a day.

He couldn’t remember much since it was a traumatizing experience.

But he did remember that an Esper found and saved him back then.

When I woke up in the hospital, I then awakened as a Guide.

Anyway...

Apparently, the ’Lab’ is the home of the new class known as ’Guides.’

It’s been a year now since I’ve been stuck in this place.
