Chapter 25: A DUNGEON BREAK

["YUYU, this house is old so the materials used when this was built were ordinary materials. In short, your house wouldn’t be able to withstand a Dungeon Break. Should we do some renovations first before you move in here? I’ll hire Beom-seok Constructions."]

["Sajangnim, Beom-seok Constructions charge a hefty price for their service."]

Had I known you’d choose to live here, I would have asked them to renovate the house, too. Yuno was now in tears while watching the house he called home for the last five years get crushed by the monsters crawling out of the Gate.

Those fugly monsters...!

This time, the monsters that came out of the dungeon were Wererats and Giants Rats.

The Giant Rats were the size of a large dog and they were covered in coarse fur that was brown-black in color. They had glowing red eyes and sharp incisors.

Their bites are dangerous because they carry a lethal disease that poisons their victims.

But the Wererats were more dangerous, of course.

Wererats were humanoids that looked thin and wiry individuals. Their heads, torso, and tails were those of a rat while their limbs were more humanoids in appearance.

And those bastards eat human flesh— and they have preferences for women.

"Go and evacuate the Civilians," Esper Matthew said, lightly pushing Yuno after this bastard grabbed him by the collar earlier. "You’re a Guide, aren’t you?"

What?

Yuno wanted to ask Esper Matthew how he found out, but...

"Hey, Yuno!"

It was Lee Haerin— HoneyMoon Convenience Store’s manager.

Lee Haerin was a short, slightly chubby woman in her late twenties.

Oh, no.

"Manager, no!" Yuno yelled worriedly. "Wererats are attracted to the scent of women!"

As soon as he said that, at least five Wererats jumped Lee Haerin...

... and then the Wererats all combusted.

I didn’t see it, but I’m sure Manager Lee used her ability.

"Silly, did you forget that I’m an A-Class Esper?" Lee Haerin asked, then she grabbed him by the collar and pulled him. "We’ll take care of the monsters— go and help the Civilians hide in the shelter."

The reason Yuno and Lee Haerin could talk freely was because Esper Matthew was working hard.

Wind Blades.

It was one of Esper Matthew’s famous skills.

He can use wind and turn them into sharp weapons, and that’s the reason why severed heads of Wererats and Giant Rats were flying everywhere.

Blood should have splattered already, and monsters’ blood was dangerous.

But it didn’t happen.

And it was thanks to Esper Matthew’s ability.

The S-Class Esper used his wind ability to evaporate the blood to dryness before it even hit the ground. It shouldn’t have been possible to crystalize blood even after the water evaporated, but Esper Matthew’s ability made it happen.

Hence, instead of blood splattering all over, little red crystals fell from the sky.

It was kinda pretty to watch.

"AHHHHH!"

Oh, right.

Yuno forgot that it wasn’t normal for Civilians to see monsters’ heads falling and rolling down the ground.

When he looked around, he was relieved to see the uniformed Espers around.

So, it wasn’t just Lee Haerin and Esper Matthew fighting at the moment.

Guides have no place on the battlefield, so I should leave.

Yuno ran past Lee Haerin. "Manager, I’ll take the Civilians to our shelter. Take care!"

"Got it," Lee Haerin said. "I already called our maknae¹ as our backup!"

Yuno rescued every single Civilian he saw outside and ushered them inside the HoneyMoon Convenience Store.
