The phone kept buzzing, but she didn’t look at it again.

The next morning, Heather arrived at the office, and the receptionist handed her a bouquet of flowers.

It was an enormous bouquet that she could barely hold with both hands.

The receptionist curiously asked who sent it, wondering if someone was pursuing her. She shook her head and said she didn’t know.

As she passed by Luke's office, the door was half open, and he naturally saw her.

His gaze lingered for a moment before he calmly turned away.

Perhaps because she had accepted the bouquet, James felt encouraged. For the next three months, he created "surprises" for her every day.

Of course, these "surprises" were what he thought of as surprises, but for Heather, they were nothing but shocks.

During these three months, he invited her out to dinner ninety-nine times, almost once a day.

But unsurprisingly, she rejected him each time.

On the hundredth time, he became smarter and texted her:

[After paying back the 10 million, have the loan sharks come to trouble you and your family?]

The 10 million was the only money she accepted, and she had refunded everything else.

During these three months, she had repaid him three times, as she had promised to return the 10 million in installments.

Perhaps out of consideration for the 10 million, Heather replied for the first time:

As soon as the message was sent, his call came in. Heather hesitated for a moment before answering.

"Heather, how about dinner tonight? It’s your birthday."

So it was her birthday.

She had even forgotten, but he remembered.

For a brief moment, Heather felt a slight touch in her heart, but it quickly subsided.

Now that she was Melinda, what need was there to celebrate Heather’s birthday?

"No need. I have to work. Goodbye."

"Wait—"

He knew it! She said she was annoyed, but when he said "wait," she still stopped.

James chuckled on the other end of the phone.

"I’ve reserved a seat at the Peninsula Hotel. Whether you come or not, I’ll wait until midnight for you."

"I said no need..."

Before she could finish, he hung up.

Heather sat there lost in thought, and just then, someone called for her.

"Melinda, we have a client to meet tonight, at the Peninsula Hotel."

It was Luke.

Again, the Peninsula Hotel. What a coincidence.

Heather hesitated clearly, but Luke was her boss, so she couldn’t refuse.

That evening, as she walked into the Peninsula Hotel, she saw that familiar figure by the window.

He looked lonely, as though waiting for someone, but she knew he wouldn’t be waiting for long.
