Chapter 113 novel Heiress Unmasked: Shaking the World With Geomancy

The infant spirit hadn't spent long in Shannon's company, but it knew Shannon wouldn't hurt it. And as long as it remained on Shannon's shoulder, Marshmallow wouldn't dare come after it anymore.

Shannon looked at the palm-sized infant spirit, her expression softening as she did. Still, she lectured, "Don't try to go anywhere. If you're good, I'll bring you to your mother before sending you to the realm of eternal life."

The infant spirit seemed to understand her. It kicked its legs as if wanting to hug her. She ignored it and headed to her desk to scrutinize the thunder-struck branch.

It was black and patterned after being struck by lightning and burned. Shannon had once asked Thalia why the latter hadn't turned the thunder-struck branch into an instrument.

At the time, Thalia had told her, "I got this for you, but you can't have it just yet. Once you're free of the bond the Gray family's set on your astrological house, you can turn this into an instrument of your choice."

The Gray family had raised Shannon for 18 years and had exploited her astrological house to shield Rachel from calamity. It wouldn't be too easy to break the bonds on her 1st house. And so, she'd had to sever her ties with them one at a time.

She had repaid the kindness she owed them for raising her by saving Rachel in the accident and shielding her from her great calamity. Then, she repaid the debt she owed them by paying them back all the money they'd spent on raising her.

Lastly, she severed her familial ties to them by publicly announcing her true identity and denouncing the Gray family.

Now that all her ties to them had been severed, she'd gotten the thunder-struck branch Thalia had prepared for her.

Shannon thought about it and grabbed her vermilion brush to draw the shape of her desired instrument on the branch.

Creating an instrument wasn't easy—the instrument's sigils had to match the patterns left by the thunderstrike, and each step of the process required her to use her spiritual energy. It wasn't something that could be completed overnight.

Shannon looked at her bare desk. After some thought, she decided to move her things from her rented apartment to the Jensen residence. The Jensen residence wasn't short of rooms, and her bedroom was a suite, anyway.
