Mike chuckled and smugly said, "You're not trying to drag me back, are you, Skylar? Too late—I'm already out of Jamborough."

Shannon didn't hesitate. "If you don't tell us the truth, we will actually head over."

Mike fell into silence. He was ready to speak when she added, "Swear on your financial fortune for the next 60 years that everything you're about to say is the truth."

He was caught off guard, secretly complaining she was harsh. Skylar and the others similarly thought so.

"Okay, I'll tell the truth." Almost immediately, Mike conceded. "You're right. I didn't receive a high-paying gig. There's someone who's like a sister to me. I suspect she's been abducted by a human trafficker, so I'm trying to look for her.

"I've located her, and I plan to bring her back overnight. If I do it quickly enough, perhaps I can get back in time for the last duel…"
