The fire brigade captain's expression darkened. He stepped forward to forcefully separate Layne from the firefighter the former had just grabbed. "Stop interfering with us!"

After learning they'd be dealing with snakes, two firefighters had donned protective suits on the way. But the sheer number of snakes made it clear that two were far from sufficient.

The commotion came to the focus of the group in the villa. Poisy, whose attention was attracted to the shouting, feared that the noise might affect Shannon.

When she recognized Layne's voice as the man responsible for the death of her unborn child, her slitted pupils narrowed menacingly. She hissed low and sharp to send out a command in supernatural energy to the swarm of snakes.
