“Xavier?” Bobby quickly withdrew his hand and grabbed a nearby chair before pushing it to Xavier. “Thank you for taking the time to visit Hayden. I… was just in too much of a rush earlier.” 

Bobby felt obligated to preserve Lily’s dignity in front of Xavier regardless of whether Xavier intended to divorce her. He smiled sheepishly and gestured once again for Xavier to sit 

However, Xavier simply stood there without moving and fixed his ambiguous gaze on Lily. 

Bobby’s absurdity as a father was only matched by her foolishness! Did she have no self–awareness as his wife? How could she let herself be slapped around so easily? 

Anger simmered within him as his gaze shifted back to Bobby. “Don’t let it happen again. She’s my woman.” 

His tone laced with discontent bore down on Bobby like a relentless tide. It was a reminder that Lily was first and foremost his wife before she was his daughter. 

A layer of cold sweat formed on Bobby’s forehead. He swallowed hard but said nothing. 

Hazel was equally intimidated. She dared not address Xavier directly. Instead, she sidled up to Lily and tugged at her sleeve. “Don’t just stand there. Explain things to him for your father. Tell him that it wasn’t his fault.” 

Lily was still caught off guard by Xavier’s sudden appearance. She wasn’t sure whether to feel touched or humiliated that he had witnessed her at her most disheveled and vulnerable. 

Xavier was a prideful man. It was normal for him to stop Bobby from further escalation to maintain appearances. However, speaking of feeling touched…. The scene of Xavier leaving with Sarah earlier resurfaced in her mind. There wasn’t much to be touched about

Bobby said without hesitation, “You can go home. Your mother will stay here. Lily, you should just call us if anything happens. There’s no need for you to take care of Hayden personally. It’s not appropriate to leave Xavier at home. You should follow him back home now.” 

Xavier saw through his pretense instantly. A hint of disdain flickered in his eyes as he turned around and left without a word.
