Initially, Howen had planned to tease Xavier a bit and perhaps get something out of him, but Xavier figured it out on his own. This was enough to prove that he was indeed interested in pursuing Lily.

Rowan caught the scent of gossip. “Imet Terence while I was abroad. He helped me with something, and I owe him a favor. He cleared that favori me to treat Hayden and promised to owe me one in return!” 

This clearly showed that Terence was very serious about Lily. 

“You agreed to it?” Xavier’s gaze darkened. 

“I was already treating Hayden. Isn’t it a win–win situation? Rowan replied confidently. 

Xavier clenched his jaw, the sharp lines of his face becoming even more defined. 

What surprised him was that Terence would go this far for Lily. Was it because of Maryanne? 

A sense of unease stirred in his heart, the feeling that someone had their eyes on something that belonged to him. 

Lily was his wife. Did she really need Terence’s help? His expression grew increasingly grim, and Rowan couldn’t help but feel a chill down his spine. Thankfully, when Rowan had messaged Terence about Hayden’s condition, Terence hadn’t come. Otherwise it would have been really awkward. The door burst open with a bang as Terence stormed in, his chest heaving with agitation. “Dr. Blackwood, how is Hayden? Has Lili arrived- His gaze met Xavier’s indifferent eyes, and his words faltered. 

“She’s checking the surveillance footage,” Rowan muttered, cursing his luck for dealing with all this. 

He grabbed a file from the desk, adjusted his glasses, and said, “I’ll go check on the patients. You two, go ahead and talk.” 

By 9:00 pm, the hospital was eerily quiet. 

The wind howled outside, and the temperature inside dropped suddenly. Xavier loosened his tie and sat down, casually gesturing to the other chair. “Mr. Devereux, please sit.” 

Terence released his hand from the door and walked over to sit down. “I heard from Dr. Blackwood that Hayden tried to commit suicide. I just came to check on him.” 

“What’s there to be nervous about?” Xavier crossed his legs, fingers laced on his lap. “Did you do something wrong?” 

1: hostility was palpable. Having known Xavier for so long, this was the first time Terence felt an emotion from him other than work–related ones. 

“If helping Lily is something wrong, I think you’re overthinking. I’m only helping her because of Maryanne.” 

Xavier leaned back in his chair, his posture becoming more relaxed. 

“There’s no need to be so uptight, Mr. Devereux. I was just saying something offhand. I hope you’ll know your place.” 

The more he spoke, the more sensitive the situation became, especially when Xavier was clearly already bothered. Sensing this, Terence got up to leave. “Since you’re here, I’ll take my leave.” As he said that, he turned to leave. 

But then, Xavier spoke again. “If I say I want you to stop involving yourself in anything related to her, including her work, do you think you can do that? Terence paused, then turned back, furrowing his brows slightly. His gaze was serious.
