Chapter 18 

When Siester Law Group called her, they didn’t outright say that Alan was taking Hayden’s 

case. 

A wave of despair washed over Lily. 

“Mr. Siester, my brother’s case is too complicated. You’re the only one who can save him,” she pleaded, her eyes filled with the last bit of hope she had left. 

Mr. Siester sighed deeply. “I’ve looked at the case, and from a professional perspective, there is definitely a possibility that the other party is behind the accident. 

“But this kind of case is difficult to win. It’s already made the news, and it’s drawing attention from multiple sources. He was driving a luxury car, which put us at a disadvantage. But don’t worry, I’ve found a lawyer with a lot of experience in handling these types of fraud cases…” 

The lawyers at Siester Law Group were all well–known in the industry. 

Although Xavier had taken Alan away, without Xavier’s connections, the Joyner family would struggle to get other high–profile lawyers. 

Lily always found herself in a passive position. 

After all, Xavier stood at the top of the social hierarchy. 

He had never looked down on lower–class people and often did charity work. 

But now, he had pushed her, his wife, into an abyss, watching as she struggled in pain, doing nothing. 

Yet, he wouldn’t let her suffer completely. 

Lily met the lawyer Alan had recommended. He was a senior lawyer named Sylvester Hammock, who was around 50 years old. He was a gold–tier lawyer at the firm. 

Sylvester also had other cases to handle. He seemed surprised. “Wasn’t it agreed that you would take this case, Alan? I’ve already signed the letter of authorization for my other case.” 

“I think it’s better for me to not take on Ms. Joyner’s case. I lack the expertise to handle such a high–profile case. It would be more appropriate for you to handle it, Sylvester.” 

Alan glanced at the letter of authorization and handed it back to Sylvester. “Tell the client to use someone else and charge less for the legal fees.” 

“Alright,” Sylvester agreed reluctantly. 

Lily understood that the real reason Alan wasn’t handling the case was because he had taken on Sarah’s case. 

She couldn’t be more aware of the reason behind the decision, but she had no other choice. 

Sylvester took the time to go through the case and watched the dash cam footage Lily had brought. After going over everything thoroughly, two hours had paused. 

He exhaled deeply. 

“Ms. Joyner, accident fraud is common, but it’s not easy to win these cases. I’ve been in the legal industry for nearly 30 years, and I’ve only won two cases like this. You need to be prepared,” Sylvester said, his face serious. 

He made sure to lay out the worst–case scenario first. “If we lose, please understand. But since I’ve taken on this case, I’ll make sure I do my best.”

handed Lily the letter of authorization. 

Lily took it and nodded, “Thank you.” 

After both sides signed the letter, Sylvester started analyzing the case. “We’ll split into two teams. I’ll handle the investigation into the deceased’s background.

“As for your family, focus on negotiating with them for compensation and try to calm the grieving family members. One, because they did suffer some harm, so we should apologize; two, we want to avoid one–sided public opinion.” 

Public opinion could be incredibly damaging–it could easily influence the judge’s decisions. Without solid proof, this lawsuit was bound to fail. 

The footage didn’t fully capture the moment the deceased collided with the car, and the surrounding road cameras didn’t capture the incident clearly. 

It was just outside of their coverage area, so it couldn’t be used as definitive proof of the fraud.
