“This isn’t something that can be explained over the phone. I’ll seek an opportunity to meet with his family in person. Don’t act rashly, and take good care of her.” Bobby was afraid that Hazel might mishandle the situation. It would backfire terribly if the Fultons got the impression that the Joyner family intended to use the child as leverage. 

Hazel fully trusted her husband’s judgment. She hung up the phone and tried to calm herself, vowing not to get angry with Lily again. 

Lily emerged from her room by evening. She was dressed in fresh clothes and ready to head to the hospital. 

Hayden had entered the second phase of his treatment. She would visit him every three days 

His condition had improved significantly. He was even able to tall asleep regularly every night. 

It gave her hope. She would feel invigorated during every hospital visit no matter how exhausted she felt coming home every day. 

“Lily, come here! I made dinner.” Hazel stepped out of the kitchen in an apron, “Wash your hands. Dinner is almost ready.” 

Her cooking skills were mediocre. Some might even call them terrible: However, Lily would always finish whatever she cooked. Yet, it felt overly ingratiating that Hazel had cooked her dinner despite their earlier argument today. 

Lily had no appetite. “I’m not hungry. You can eat without me.‘ 

“You can’t skip meals! Your body won’t hold up!” Hazel blocked her path. “It’s late now Where are you going? 

“I’m going to the hospital to see Hayden Lily looked at her expressionlessly. “I can take care of myself. You should visit him more often if you have the time. He’s doing much better now. Dr. Blackwood suggested spending more time with him to aid his recovery. 

Hazel would visit him in the hospital occasionally. After all, he was her son. She would be left in tears during each visit. 

She immediately removed her apron. “How about we pack the food and eat with Hayden at the hospital?” 

“Sure.” Lily watched as Hazel hurried back to the kitchen to pack the dishes into containers before they left the house together. 

They would take a cab whenever they went out together. 

Winter nights arrived earlier than usual in Jadeford. The entire city was illuminated with neon lights before 6:00p.m. 

The car’s interior glowed with the reflections of the city’s lights that cast taint shadows on Lily’s pale tace. Her expression was blank 

She spent the entire afternoon in her room and couldn’t fall asleep. Her mind was a jumbled mess. 

She had been in a chaotic and empty state lately with only one clear thought. 

She had to cut ties swiftly and decisively with Xavier. She could sever all inappropriate thoughts and finally move on once their divorce was finalized. 

Lily and Hazel arrived at Silverstone Hospital as the caregiver was about to leave to buy dinner for Hayden. The caregiver decided to head downstairs and eat alone when she saw they had brought food.
